Program orientation began with over 20 young men and women attending the informational segment. They ranged from 10th graders to students who had completed their first year of college. They came from area alternative schools and from public high schools
Our corporate partners continued to be supportive and provide reality experiences for the students. One session was held at Johnson Controls and presentations made by the HR Director and members of the staff
“We thorougly enjoyed The Learning Network students on site.” – Lisa Montgomery, HR Director, Johnson Controls
Public Service Credit Union provided a Financial Literacy session, complete with the mobile credit unit. The students had the opportunity to open account and to use the ATM machine if they had accounts at other institutions.
The students were attentive and inspired throughout every session. Prior to receiving their certificates and personal portfolios — Employability Jeopardy made the closing session enjoyable.
All of the students ranked the experience a success and expressed an interest in attending like workshops and supplementary forums. 70 per cent of the participants moved on to summer employment.

Dear Learning Network Mentors,
We want to tell you how much we enjoyed The Learning Network program. We learned quite a few valuable things that we will take as we go on to the next level. (Marcus was able to secure a summer job as a camp counselor and Lindsay will be prepared for college and part-time job interviews). Additionally, we came to good understanding about how we should conduct ourselves with respect to social media, how to conduct a job interview and how to create and improve our personal brand. This was a unique experience that will set us apart in this competitive market.
By the way, all of the presenters were outstanding, the stipend was appreciated and we will be sure to recommend this program to our friends.
Thank you for your hard work and dedication to our generation. We will work hard and make you proud.
