Deborah 

Deborah served on the Torch of Wisdom Foundation Board of Directors from 1993-2003 and returned to the board in 2012. Currently, she serves as the Recording Secretary and the Governance Director.


During her tenure, Deborah served as the Treasurer for five years as well as an active member of numerous TOWF fundraising committees, including Capital Campaign and Art Extravaganza. She is a native Detroiter and has lived in Southfield, MI since 1993. Deborah’s Godmother encouraged her to start volunteering at 16 years old. Deborah is retired from the U.S. Treasury Department.


She worked as a Taxpayer Representative for 2 years then as a Revenue Officer for 36 years.

She attended Michigan State & Wayne State University majoring in Liberal Arts. At Michigan State she was a Minority Aide and a founding member of Nouveau Noir, an organization that held the first Miss Black MSU Pageant. Deborah started volunteering with the Detroit Urban League while attending MSU.


She served on the Detroit Urban League Board of Directors and was President of the Detroit Urban League Guild for five years. She later served as Central Regional Coordinator for four years, then Vice President of the National Council of Urban League Guilds for five years.

 

In 1984 she became a Charter Member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Southfield Alumnae Chapter and later participated in the organizing and founding of the Delta SAC Foundation, now known as the Torch of Wisdom Foundation, Inc.
