Beverly
Beverly Allen has served on the Torch of Wisdom Foundation Board of Directors since 2010. She currently serves as the Board Chairperson & President, having previously served as Financial Secretary and the Capital Campaign Chair. Beverly is involved with the TOWF quite simply because she believes in the organization's commitment to investing in youth and families to enrich our community. Beverly is motivated to give back by a love of people, coupled with a gratefulness for all of the opportunities that she has been afforded.
Beverly has over 25 years of management experience in the healthcare industry. In 2022, she concluded a successful and rewarding career, retiring from her role as the Chief Executive Officer of Aetna Better Health of Michigan, a part of the Aetna business unit of the CVS, Inc. family of companies. Before joining Aetna Better Health of Michigan, Beverly served as Vice President of Finance for SelectCare, a for-profit managed care organization with more than 350,000 HMO and PPO members. Also, she served as Chief Financial Officer of Mercy Health Plan (Trinity), a managed care organization with over 245,000 HMO and PPO members. Prior to her health care management experience, she spent 9 years with Ernst & Young as an audit professional concentrating in the health care and financial services industries.
Beverly Allen received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Accounting from Eastern Michigan University. She is a Certified Managed Care Executive with the American Association of Health Plans and a Certified Public Accountant. In 2018, she was awarded the Ellis J. Bonner Outstanding Achievement Award, the Michigan Association of Health Plans (MAHP) most prestigious award. This award recognizes a member of MAHP who has been nominated by his/her colleagues based upon their exemplary service, leadership and contributions to the managed care industry and community.
In addition to the Torch of Wisdom Foundation, she is very active in the community having served on multiple non-profit boards in the greater Detroit area. For fun she loves to golf, travel to experience other cultures and read interesting novels that take her on journeys of the mind. She splits her time between Nevada and MI where she lives with her husband, Robert, of 36 years.
